As a student with a major or minor in history, you’ll enjoy small class sizes while learning from avid historians with specialties that include Colonial, Native American, Civil War, Medieval, and Public history. Our Methods, Historiography, and Senior Seminar courses will prepare you for post-graduate studies or employment. Our Public History course will introduce you to the fascinating career field of museum and archival work. Our extensive network of internship placements, which include top-ranked museums and historical sites, will give you unmatched real-world experience working in the history field. Prefer to stay on campus? No problem. You can work with our University Archivist to gain experience doing archival work and institutional research at the Sullivan Library University Archive.

With a history degree, you can pursue a career in teaching, law, business, museums, publishing, archives, libraries, government, and more. It’s not by accident that more U.S. presidents have earned degrees in history than any other major.

As a member of our History Club or Phi Alpha Theta National Honor Society, you can explore the scenic Lower Hudson Valley, a community that prides itself on being ‘rich in history’ with its founding dating back to 1680. You can present your own original research at a regional undergraduate history conference or help us organize one of these conferences. Our campus has served as a conference host site multiple times in the past. You even can join our Debate Team , which will put your critical thinking skills honed by your history studies to the ultimate test in intercollegiate competition.
